Forgetting conversations we just had
A friend brings up what you talked about yesterday. You nod along, but the talk itself is gone. That gap can be unsettling, and it can make you doubt yourself.
Short gaps like this are common. Poor sleep, stress, and doing too many things at once all play a part. Low mood, some medicines, thyroid trouble, low vitamin B12, and hearing loss can matter too.
Doctors use the term mild cognitive impairment when memory slips more than age alone explains. Daily life still runs, but you or those close to you notice the change. It is not the same as dementia, and it does not always lead there.
When to see someone
Book a doctor's visit if you get lost on a route you know well. Do the same if bills, meds, or cooking start to slip, or if family notice more than you do. Get seen fast after a knock to the head, or if the change came on suddenly with confusion, a weak arm or leg, or slurred speech.
Below is our reviewed list of remedies linked to mild cognitive impairment. Each one carries a grade for how strong the research behind it is. A higher grade means better studies, not a promise of results, so talk with your doctor before you try anything.
