What is Whole30 Diet? The Whole30 is a 30-day dietary reset created in 2009 by nutritionists Melissa and Dallas Hartwig. It eliminates nine major food groups — added sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, dairy, soy, MSG, sulfites, and carrageenan — with zero exceptions or 'cheat days.' After 30 days , eliminated foods are reintroduced one category at a time to systematically identify which ones cause symptoms like bloating, fatigue, skin issues, or mood changes. How does Whole30 Diet work? By stripping away the most common dietary culprits, the Whole30 gives your gut lining, immune system, and hormonal signaling a chance to calm down and reset. Removing high-glycemic foods and added sugars helps stabilize blood sugar and reduce the insulin spikes that drive cravings and energy crashes. The structured reintroduction phase is what makes it genuinely diagnostic — you learn exactly which foods are personal triggers rather than guessing. What forms does Whole30 Diet come in? The Whole30 is a lifestyle protocol, not a supplement. It is followed as a self-guided 30-day program using the official Whole30 book, companion app, or website resources. No special products are required — only whole, unprocessed foods. Where it comes from: Created in 2009 by Melissa Hartwig Urban and Dallas Hartwig and popularized through the 2012 book 'It Starts With Food,' the Whole30 grew from a personal wellness experiment into one of the most widely followed elimination diet programs in the United States, with millions of participants worldwide by the 2020s.

Helps

What does Whole30 Diet help with? Bloating and digestive issues: Removing grains, legumes, dairy, and common food additives takes a major load off the gut. Many people see significant reductions in bloating, gas, and irregular bowel habits within the first two weeks as the gut lining has a chance to settle. Food sensitivities and intolerances: The structured reintroduction phase after 30 days is what sets Whole30 apart — it lets you add foods back one at a time and observe your body's response. This is a practical, accessible version of the gold-standard elimination-challenge method used by allergists and functional medicine doctors. Blood sugar imbalances: Cutting added sugars, refined grains, and alcohol removes the biggest drivers of blood sugar spikes and crashes. Most people report steadier energy levels and fewer energy crashes by the second week of the program. Chronic fatigue and low energy: As blood sugar stabilizes and the body adapts to burning fat and whole food carbohydrates for fuel, most participants report meaningfully improved and more consistent energy — especially in the afternoon hours when crashes are common. Sugar cravings and carb addiction: Thirty days without added sugar significantly reduces the psychological and physiological drive to seek out sweets and refined carbs. Many participants report that foods they previously craved no longer hold the same pull after completing the program. Skin issues (acne, eczema flares): Dairy and high-glycemic foods are among the best-studied dietary triggers for acne and inflammatory skin conditions. Eliminating them for 30 days often produces visible skin improvements, though results vary depending on individual triggers. Inflammation and joint pain: Removing processed foods, seed oils (on stricter implementations), added sugars, and common food allergens can lower the overall inflammatory load in the body. People with mild inflammatory joint discomfort often report noticeable relief by the end of the 30 days . Weight management: While Whole30 is not marketed as a weight-loss diet, the removal of calorie-dense processed foods and the emphasis on protein and vegetables naturally supports fat loss for many participants. Improved satiety hormone signaling also helps with portion control. Mood swings and brain fog: Stable blood sugar has a direct effect on mood, focus, and mental clarity. Many Whole30 participants report that the afternoon brain fog and irritability they had written off as normal resolve significantly by the end of the program.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
