This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Walnut is one of the oldest cultivated tree nuts in the world, grown from the Himalayas to the Mediterranean and prized in both cuisine and traditional healing systems. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the walnut kernel (He Tao Ren) is classified as warming and is used to nourish the kidneys, strengthen the lungs, and support brain and bone health. Modern science has confirmed that walnuts are one of the most nutrient-dense whole foods available, with a uniquely powerful combination of plant omega-3 fats, polyphenols, and antioxidants.
Walnuts work through several overlapping pathways. Their high ALA content feeds anti-inflammatory processes throughout the body, including in the brain and blood vessels. Their polyphenols — especially ellagitannins — are converted by gut bacteria into compounds called urolithins, which have strong antioxidant and cellular-protective effects. Walnuts also contain melatonin, arginine, and magnesium, which together support sleep quality, blood vessel relaxation, and stress regulation.
Whole walnuts are the most studied and most effective form — the intact nut matrix slows fat absorption and preserves polyphenol activity. Walnut oil retains the healthy fat profile but loses most of the polyphenols and fiber. Extracts and capsules standardize polyphenol content but are less studied than the whole food. Walnut powder blends well into smoothies and baking while preserving most active compounds.
Walnuts have been cultivated since at least 7000 BCE, with ancient Persian, Greek, and Roman texts documenting their use as brain food (partly inspired by the brain-like shape of the kernel — an early example of the doctrine of signatures). In TCM, He Tao Ren has been used since the Tang Dynasty to warm the kidneys and calm the lungs. Medieval Persian physicians including Ibn Sina (Avicenna) recommended walnuts for headaches, constipation, and strengthening the body.
