This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Umckaloabo is a root extract from Pelargonium sidoides, a flowering plant native to South Africa. Its name comes from the Zulu words roughly translating to 'heavy cough,' reflecting its long history as a traditional remedy for chest and respiratory complaints. The extract — most famously standardized as EPs 7630 — has become a widely used herbal preparation for acute respiratory infections in European phytomedicine, though the overall body of evidence supporting it remains an active area of investigation.
Umckaloabo is thought to work through several pathways: it may inhibit the attachment of bacteria and viruses to the lining of the respiratory tract, potentially making it harder for pathogens to take hold. It is also believed to interact with the immune system by influencing natural killer cell activity and the release of interferon, the body's own antiviral signaling protein. Additionally, it may help thin and move mucus out of the airways, which could make breathing easier during respiratory illness.
The liquid drop form (EPs 7630) is the most widely used, especially in children due to easy dose adjustment. Tablets and syrups are common in European markets. Capsules are available in North American health stores. Look for products standardized to EPs 7630 or specifying a defined Pelargonium sidoides root extract to ensure you are getting a well-standardized product.
Zulu and Basotho healers in southern Africa used the root of Pelargonium sidoides for generations to treat what they called 'heavy cough' — a term that likely included tuberculosis and serious chest infections. A British prospector named Charles Stevens reportedly brought the remedy to England in the early 1900s after using it to treat his own tuberculosis, sparking European interest. Modern pharmacological investigation began in the 1970s, and the standardized extract EPs 7630 was developed and used primarily in Germany from the 1990s onward, leading to its approval as a licensed herbal medicine in several European countries.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
