This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Sang Shen is the ripe fruit of the mulberry tree (most commonly Morus alba or Morus nigra), harvested and dried for use as both food and medicine in China for over 2,000 years. In TCM, it is classified as a blood-nourishing tonic that supports the Liver and Kidney organ systems, helping to replenish what the body depletes through stress, aging, and overwork. Beyond its traditional role, modern research has confirmed that mulberry fruit contains a remarkable range of bioactive compounds that act on blood sugar, inflammation, antioxidant defense, and cardiovascular health.
Sang Shen works through several overlapping pathways. Its anthocyanins and polyphenols act as powerful antioxidants that protect cells from oxidative stress and reduce inflammation throughout the body. The unique alkaloid 1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) slows the breakdown of carbohydrates in the gut, which helps prevent blood sugar spikes after meals. Its polysaccharides support immune regulation and have shown favorable effects on lipid metabolism, helping to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in clinical research.
Dried Sang Shen berries can be eaten directly or brewed as a tea or decoction (the traditional method). Powdered forms and capsules offer standardized, convenient dosing. Liquid extracts and tinctures allow flexible dosing. In classical TCM, Sang Shen is often combined with other herbs in formulas targeting Liver-Kidney deficiency, blood deficiency patterns, or age-related decline.
Sang Shen has been documented in Chinese materia medica since at least the Tang Dynasty (7th century CE) and features prominently in the Bencao Gangmu (Compendium of Materia Medica) by Li Shizhen (1596). It was used classically to treat dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, constipation in the elderly, premature gray hair, and weakness from blood or yin deficiency — essentially a gentle aging tonic. The fruit was also consumed as a common food across East Asia, giving it an exceptionally long safety record.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
