This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Peony Root (Bai Shao) is the processed white root of Paeonia lactiflora, a flowering plant native to China, Mongolia, and Siberia. It has been a cornerstone herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over a millennium, appearing in foundational classical formulas still prescribed today. Unlike its relative Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), the white variety is prepared by peeling and boiling, giving it a milder, nourishing character prized for calming and tonifying effects.
Peony Root's star compound, paeoniflorin, works on several pathways at once — it gently calms overactive nerve signals that cause muscle spasms and pain, helps balance stress hormones, and supports a more even mood. It also has a natural anti-inflammatory effect and appears to help regulate the hormonal signals that govern the menstrual cycle. In TCM terms, it is said to 'nourish the Blood and soften the Liver,' which translates roughly to calming tension, supporting blood flow, and easing hormonal irregularities.
Traditional decoctions (boiling the root in water) remain the most time-tested method and are standard in clinical TCM practice. Standardized extract capsules (typically standardized to 2–4% paeoniflorin) offer convenience and more consistent dosing for modern use. Granule forms dissolve in hot water and serve as a practical middle ground. Tinctures are available but less common for this herb. For PCOS or hormonal support, peony is almost always combined with licorice root (as in the classical formula Shakuyaku-kanzo-to), so combination products are widely used.
Bai Shao has been recorded in Chinese materia medica since at least the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE) and features prominently in the Shang Han Lun, one of the oldest surviving clinical medical texts in the world. It appears in hundreds of classical formulas and remains one of the top-ten most prescribed herbs in East Asian medicine today. Japanese Kampo medicine adopted it early and has produced some of the most rigorous modern clinical research on its use, particularly for PCOS and muscle cramps.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
