What is Pantethine (Active B5)? Pantethine is the biologically active, dimeric form of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). Unlike regular B5, your body can use pantethine directly without converting it — this makes it significantly more effective at a cellular level. It serves as the direct precursor to Coenzyme A (CoA), an essential molecule involved in hundreds of metabolic reactions, especially fat and cholesterol metabolism. How does Pantethine (Active B5) work? Pantethine supercharges your body's production of Coenzyme A, which is the key enzyme your liver uses to process and break down fats. By increasing CoA availability, it helps the liver metabolize triglycerides more efficiently, reduces the production of harmful LDL particles, and boosts HDL (the 'good' cholesterol). It also helps regulate the rate at which your body makes cholesterol in the first place. What forms does Pantethine (Active B5) come in? Softgel capsules are the most common and preferred form for absorption. Standard doses are typically 300–900 mg per day, split across meals. Powder forms exist but are less commonly used due to taste. Look for supplements that specify 'D-pantethine' as the active isomer. Where it comes from: Pantethine was identified and studied extensively in Japan from the 1960s onward, where it became a clinically prescribed treatment for lipid disorders. Much of the foundational human trial data comes from Italian and Japanese research groups who conducted rigorous trials in the 1980s and 1990s. It has since gained recognition in integrative cardiology in North America as a well-tolerated, evidence-backed alternative or complement to conventional cholesterol medications.

Helps

What does Pantethine (Active B5) help with? High triglycerides: Pantethine is one of the most effective natural supplements for lowering triglycerides. It helps your liver process and clear blood fats more efficiently, with clinical trials showing reductions of 20–30% in elevated triglyceride levels over 8–16 weeks . High LDL cholesterol: By boosting Coenzyme A activity, pantethine helps regulate how much LDL cholesterol the liver produces and releases. Studies consistently show modest but meaningful drops in total and LDL cholesterol with consistent use. Low HDL ('good' cholesterol): Unlike many treatments that only lower bad cholesterol, pantethine also raises HDL. This dual action makes it particularly valuable for people with the full picture of unhealthy cholesterol ratios. Metabolic syndrome: Metabolic syndrome involves a cluster of issues — high blood sugar, excess belly fat, high triglycerides, and low HDL. Pantethine directly addresses the lipid components of this cluster, and some research suggests broader metabolic benefits. Cardiovascular disease risk: By improving the full lipid panel — lower triglycerides, lower LDL, higher HDL — pantethine helps reduce several key risk factors for heart disease. It's often used as a natural option for people who can't tolerate statins or want complementary support. Fatty liver (early stage): Early non-alcoholic fatty liver involves fat accumulating in liver cells. Because pantethine enhances the liver's fat-burning machinery through CoA, it may support liver fat clearance — though evidence here is still developing. Energy and fatigue: Coenzyme A is central to energy production in every cell. When pantethine boosts CoA levels, it can improve how efficiently your body converts food into usable energy, which some people notice as better stamina and reduced fatigue. Adrenal stress and burnout: Your adrenal glands depend heavily on pantothenic acid and CoA to produce stress hormones. Pantethine, as the most bioavailable form, can support adrenal function more effectively than standard B5 during periods of chronic stress. Diabetes-related lipid issues: People with diabetes or prediabetes often have elevated triglycerides and low HDL. Clinical trials have specifically included diabetic populations and shown pantethine improves lipid markers in this group without negatively affecting blood sugar.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
