Home

What is Orchitinum? Orchitinum is a homeopathic remedy. It is made from testicle tissue taken from cattle or sheep. Its Latin name is Testicular substance (Bos/Ovis), and it is also called testicular extract. It is a sarcode (a remedy made from healthy animal tissue). Homeopaths have given it to men for low sex drive, tiredness with age, and testicle complaints. It comes as pills, pellets, liquid drops and creams. The tissue is watered down again and again. At a 30C dilution, none of the starting tissue is left in the pill. Trials do not show it works better than a placebo (a dummy pill). Traditional use and proof are two different things. A remedy can have a long history of use and still have no proven effect. That is the case here. How does Orchitinum work? There is no known way this remedy could act on the body. Homeopathy has its own idea: that tissue, made very weak, can act on the organ it came from. Mainstream science does not accept that idea. The tissue is mixed with liquid and shaken hard. A drop of that mix is then diluted again, over and over. Each step makes it weaker. By 30C, so much dilution has happened that no starting tissue is left. What you swallow is a sugar pill, or water and alcohol. Any change you notice is most likely a placebo effect or normal healing. Low potencies are a bit different. Forms such as 1X or 3X may still hold tiny amounts of real animal tissue. That matters for allergy and infection risk, not for proof of benefit. What forms does Orchitinum come in? Orchitinum is sold in a few simple forms. Sugar pellets or tablets that you let melt under the tongue are the most common. Liquid drops in water and alcohol are also sold. Strengths are printed as numbers and letters, such as 6C, 30C or 200C. A higher number means more dilution, so less of the starting tissue. Low X strengths are the only ones that may still hold animal matter. Some creams and combination products list it beside other ingredients. In those, check the full label before you use it. Where it comes from: Orchitinum belongs to homeopathy, which began in Germany in the late 1700s. It is one of the sarcodes, remedies prepared from healthy animal organs, which came into use in the 1800s. It was given mainly to men, for weakness, low sex drive and testicle complaints. It has always been a minor remedy, not one of the famous ones. Homeopathic pharmacies still list it today.

Helps

What does Orchitinum help with? Low sex drive in men: This is the most common reason homeopaths pick it. No human trial has tested it for low sex drive. Low sex drive can come from stress, depression, low testosterone or heart and blood vessel problems, so get it checked. Tiredness and low energy linked to ageing in men: Homeopaths have used it for men who feel worn out as they age. No trial has looked at this. Ongoing tiredness can be a sign of thyroid trouble, anaemia (low iron in the blood), diabetes or sleep apnoea (breathing pauses in sleep). Sore or swollen testicles, as a side remedy only: It has been used alongside normal care after swelling settles. There is no trial support for this. A sore or swollen testicle needs a doctor, because it can mean infection, a twisted testicle or a tumour. Slow puberty in boys (old homeopathic use): Old homeopathic books list this use. No trial backs it, and no child should take it in place of proper care. Slow puberty needs a doctor who can check hormones and growth. Recovery after mumps that affected the testicles (old homeopathic use): Some texts suggested it for the weak, tired feeling after mumps orchitis (swelling of the testicle caused by mumps). No trial has tested that. Mumps infection itself needs medical care.

Where it comes from:

Orchitinum belongs to homeopathy, which began in Germany in the late 1700s.

Who should avoid Orchitinum?

  • Do not use if you have sudden, severe pain or swelling in a testicle; this can be a twisted testicle and needs emergency care within hours
  • Do not use if you have found a new lump in a testicle; see a doctor before you take anything
  • Do not use if you are thinking of it as a swap for medicine your doctor has prescribed
  • Do not use if you have a fever with testicle pain, which may mean infection needing antibiotics
  • Do not use if your immune system is weak (your body fights infection poorly) and the product is a low strength such as 1X or a mother tincture
  • Do not use if you are allergic to beef or lamb products and the product is a low strength such as 1X
  • Do not use if you avoid cattle or sheep products for religious or personal reasons, because that is the source material
  • Do not use if you are giving it to a boy for slow puberty or growth worries without a doctor checking him first
  • Do not use the alcohol-based drops if you are recovering from alcohol problems, taking disulfiram or metronidazole, or giving them to a young child
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it is fine

When should you see a doctor?

Get emergency care now if you have sudden, severe pain in a testicle, or pain with sickness and vomiting. A twisted testicle can be saved only if treated fast.

See a doctor within a few days if you notice a lump, a change in size or shape, a dragging ache, blood in your semen, or swelling with fever.

Also see a doctor if low sex drive or tiredness lasts more than a few weeks. These can point to low testosterone, thyroid trouble, depression, diabetes or heart problems, and all of those can be tested for.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
