Home

What is Multivitamin and mineral? A multivitamin and mineral (MVM) supplement is a single product that delivers a broad spectrum of essential nutrients your body needs to function well every day. Most people, even those eating a reasonably healthy diet, have at least one or two nutrient gaps — and MVMs are designed to catch those gaps efficiently. They typically contain 20–30 vitamins and minerals at or near the recommended daily amounts established by health authorities. How does Multivitamin and mineral work? Each vitamin and mineral in a multivitamin plays a specific role in the body — from producing energy in your cells, to building immune defenses, to keeping your bones strong and your brain sharp. When key nutrients are low, these systems start to underperform. Taking a multivitamin restores the raw materials your body needs to run these processes at full speed. Think of it less like a treatment and more like topping off a tank that modern diets often leave partially empty. What forms does Multivitamin and mineral come in? Capsules and softgels are the most bioavailable standard form. Tablets are widely available but may be harder to absorb if not properly formulated. Gummies are popular but often contain fewer minerals and added sugars. Liquids and powders allow flexible dosing and may suit people with swallowing difficulties. Look for formulas listing bioavailable forms: methylcobalamin (B12), methylfolate (B9), magnesium glycinate, and vitamin D3 rather than D2. Where it comes from: The concept of vitamins was established in the early 20th century following the discovery that specific dietary deficiencies caused diseases like scurvy, rickets, and beriberi. The first commercial multivitamin products appeared in the 1940s, and today MVMs are among the most widely used supplements globally, taken by roughly one-third of adults in the United States alone.

Helps

What does Multivitamin and mineral help with? Nutritional deficiencies: Modern diets — even healthy-seeming ones — commonly fall short on vitamin D, magnesium, vitamin K, and B12. A daily multivitamin reliably closes most of these common gaps without needing to track every food source individually. It's one of the simplest ways to bring your baseline nutrition up to a healthy standard. Low energy and fatigue: B vitamins — especially B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12 — are the backbone of your body's energy production system. When any of these are low, you can feel persistently tired even with enough sleep. Iron and magnesium also play key roles in energy, and correcting shortfalls in these nutrients often produces a noticeable lift in vitality within a few weeks. Weak immune system: Vitamins C, D, and zinc are among the most well-researched nutrients for immune defense. They help your body build and activate immune cells and reduce how severe and long respiratory infections feel. Selenium also plays a supporting role in keeping immune responses balanced and effective. Pregnancy nutritional support: Pregnancy dramatically increases the need for folate, iron, iodine, calcium, and vitamin D. Folate in particular is critical in early pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects — ideally started before conception. Prenatal multivitamins are specifically formulated to meet these elevated needs and are among the most evidence-backed uses of any supplement. Bone health and osteoporosis risk: Calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K2, and magnesium all contribute to bone density and structure. Vitamin D helps your gut absorb calcium, while K2 directs calcium into bone rather than soft tissues. For older adults and postmenopausal women, maintaining adequate levels of these nutrients is one of the most actionable steps to support long-term bone health. Brain fog and focus: B vitamins — particularly B6, B9 (folate), and B12 — are essential for neurotransmitter production and nervous system maintenance. Low B12 in particular is linked to brain fog, poor memory, and even mood dips, especially in older adults and vegans. Correcting B12 deficiency can meaningfully improve cognitive clarity within weeks. Eye health and vision decline: Vitamins A, C, E, and the minerals zinc and selenium all play roles in protecting your eyes from damage over time. Research on antioxidant vitamin combinations has shown real reductions in progression of age-related macular degeneration, one of the leading causes of vision loss in older adults. Skin, hair, and nail health: Biotin, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin A all contribute to healthy skin structure, collagen production, and hair and nail strength. Deficiencies in any of these can cause brittle nails, hair thinning, and dull or slow-healing skin. A comprehensive multi often addresses several of these at once. Older adult nutrient needs: As we age, absorption of B12, vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium decreases. Older adults also tend to eat less variety, making nutrient gaps more likely. Multivitamins formulated for seniors are adjusted to address these shifts and may even support cognitive health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline over time. Restrictive diets (vegan, low-calorie): Vegans and vegetarians are at high risk for B12, zinc, iron, iodine, and vitamin D deficiency because these nutrients are concentrated in animal products. People on calorie-restricted diets face similar gaps simply from eating less overall. A comprehensive multivitamin is one of the most practical safeguards for anyone whose diet significantly limits food variety.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
