What is it? Low-Intensity Continuous Ultrasound (LICUS) is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that uses sound waves at a low-intensity frequency to promote tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain. Unlike high-intensity ultrasound used for diagnostic imaging or targeted tissue destruction, LICUS operates at lower power levels, making it suitable for promoting cellular repair and regeneration without causing thermal damage. How does it work for medicinal purposes? LICUS delivers continuous, low-intensity sound waves that penetrate tissues to stimulate cellular activity and increase blood flow. The sound waves promote the release of growth factors, enhance the synthesis of collagen, and accelerate tissue repair processes. The mechanical vibrations also improve lymphatic drainage and reduce swelling, which can alleviate pain and enhance recovery in soft tissues, tendons, ligaments, and even bones. What are the active mechanisms that are important for its medicinal properties? Mechanical Stimulation : The continuous sound waves induce micro-vibrations in tissues, promoting cell signaling and stimulating the repair of soft tissue. Increased Blood Flow : LICUS helps enhance circulation, providing oxygen and nutrients to damaged areas to support healing. Anti-inflammatory Effects : It reduces inflammation by modulating cytokine activity, which can be beneficial for chronic pain conditions. Collagen Synthesis : Promotes the synthesis of collagen, aiding in tissue strength and repair, especially in tendons and ligaments. What forms does it come in? Handheld ultrasound devices for home use Clinical ultrasound machines operated by healthcare professionals Wearable ultrasound patches (in development) What if I have an imbalance or deficiency? LICUS is not used to address nutritional deficiencies or biochemical imbalances directly. However, it is particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions related to soft tissue injuries , chronic inflammation , or delayed wound healing . By enhancing local circulation and reducing inflammation, it can indirectly support recovery in conditions where nutrient delivery is compromised. When was it first used for medicinal purposes? Therapeutic ultrasound has been used since the 1950s for musculoskeletal injuries. The low-intensity continuous mode specifically started gaining attention in the 1990s, with research exploring its benefits in tissue healing, fracture repair, and pain management. Clinical Evidence: Studies on LICUS for Soft Tissue Healing: Study 1 : A study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that athletes with acute ankle sprains treated with LICUS showed faster recovery times compared to those using placebo ultrasound. Study 2 : Research in the British Journal of Sports Medicine showed significant pain reduction in patients with chronic tendonitis treated with LICUS . Studies on LICUS for Bone Healing: Study 1 : A double-blind study in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery demonstrated that LICUS reduced healing time for fractures, especially in patients with delayed healing. Study 2 : An article in Arthritis Research & Therapy reported benefits for osteoarthritis pain management using LICUS . Incorporating LICUS into therapeutic protocols can be highly effective, especially for athletes, individuals recovering from surgery, or those suffering from chronic pain conditions.

Helps

Which conditions and symptoms does it help in men, women, or both? LICUS has been shown in double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled studies to help with the following conditions and symptoms: Soft Tissue Injuries (Both Men and Women): Studies have shown that LICUS accelerates the healing of sprains, strains, and ligament injuries. Research in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that LICUS significantly reduced recovery time for ankle sprains . Chronic Tendonitis (Both): Effective in reducing pain and inflammation in conditions like tennis elbow and Achilles tendonitis. A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine demonstrated that patients treated with LICUS had improved tendon healing and reduced pain scores compared to placebo . Bone Fracture Healing (Both): LICUS can promote the healing of bone fractures, especially in non-union or delayed healing fractures. A double-blind study in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery showed that LICUS significantly reduced healing time in patients with fractures . Osteoarthritis Pain Relief (Both): Helps reduce pain and improve joint function in osteoarthritis patients. A study published in Arthritis Research & Therapy found that LICUS treatment decreased pain and stiffness in knee osteoarthritis patients . Post-Surgical Recovery (Both): Useful in reducing pain, swelling, and recovery time after surgical procedures. Clinical research in Annals of Surgery reported faster recovery and less post-operative pain with the use of LICUS therapy .

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
