This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Kutaja comes from the bark and seeds of Holarrhena antidysenterica, a medium-sized tree that grows throughout India, Sri Lanka, and parts of Southeast Asia. Its name literally means 'that which cures dysentery' in Sanskrit, reflecting its central role in Ayurvedic gastroenterology for millennia. The tree's bark and seeds are both used medicinally, with the bark being the primary part featured in classical formulations like Kutajarishta and Kutajaghrita.
Kutaja works primarily through its rich load of steroidal alkaloids — especially conessine — which have well-documented activity against the amoeba Entamoeba histolytica, the organism responsible for amoebic dysentery. The tannins in the bark help tighten the gut lining and reduce fluid secretion, which explains its ability to stop diarrhea quickly. Together, these compounds also reduce gut inflammation, calm intestinal spasms, and create an unfriendly environment for harmful bacteria and parasites.
Traditional Ayurvedic practice uses Kutaja as a decoction (boiled bark water), churna (powdered bark), or as part of fermented liquid formulas like Kutajarishta. Modern commercial products come as standardized capsules or tablets, often standardized to conessine content. For acute diarrhea, decoction or powder is preferred for faster absorption; capsules are more practical for ongoing gut health support.
Kutaja is one of the most consistently referenced herbs in classical Ayurvedic texts, appearing prominently in the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita — two foundational texts written over 2,000 years ago. It was the primary treatment for what was then called 'atisara' (dysentery and diarrhea), and its effectiveness in a region historically challenged by waterborne gut infections gave it near-legendary status in South Asian traditional medicine. British colonial physicians in India took note of it in the 19th century and documented its use under the name 'Tellicherry bark' or 'Conessi bark.'
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
