This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Gui Zhi Tang is one of the oldest and most studied herbal formulas in Traditional Chinese Medicine, originating from Zhang Zhongjing's 'Shang Han Lun' (Treatise on Cold Damage Disorders) written around 200 CE. It combines five synergistic herbs — cinnamon twig, white peony, fresh ginger, jujube, and honey-fried licorice — in precise ratios to create a warming, harmonizing formula. In Kampo medicine (Japan's traditional herbal system), it is known as Keishi-to and remains a widely prescribed and clinically researched formula today.
The formula works by gently warming the body's surface, helping it fight off early-stage infections while simultaneously calming any overreaction in the immune or nervous system. Cinnamon twig and ginger promote circulation and warmth; white peony nourishes and calms; jujube and licorice protect the digestive system and smooth the action of the other herbs together. In modern terms, the formula appears to modulate immune activity, reduce inflammation, support the gut-immune axis, and help regulate the autonomic nervous system.
Traditional preparation as a decoction (simmered tea) is considered the gold standard and closely matches how this formula was studied in classical texts. Modern standardized granules (common in Japan and Taiwan) are the most convenient and widely used clinical form. Capsules and tablets are available but may vary in potency depending on extraction methods. Always look for products that specify the correct 3:3:3:3:2 or 3:3:2:3:2 herb ratio.
Zhang Zhongjing formulated Gui Zhi Tang approximately 1,800 years ago, and it has been in continuous clinical use ever since across China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. In Japan, it is one of the most commonly prescribed Kampo formulas and is covered by national health insurance. It is often called the 'mother formula' of Chinese medicine because many important classical formulas were derived from or built upon it.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
