This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Grains of Selim are the dried seedpods of Xylopia aethiopica, a tall flowering tree native to West and Central Africa. The pods have a woody, smoky, slightly peppery aroma and have been used in cooking and traditional medicine for hundreds of years across Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, and surrounding regions. In many West African traditions, they are considered one of the most important medicinal spices — added to soups and broths not just for flavor but for their healing properties.
The pods are rich in volatile oils and kaurene-type diterpenes — plant compounds that are thought to help calm inflammation, relax smooth muscle in the gut and airways, and may have antimicrobial properties. Xylopic acid, one of the more studied compounds, has shown pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory and preclinical research settings, though human clinical trials are limited. The aromatic oils are also thought to help loosen mucus and support airway comfort, which may help explain the long tradition of using this spice for coughs and chest congestion.
Traditionally, the whole pods or seeds are simmered in water to make a medicinal decoction, or added whole to soups and stews during cooking. Ground powder is used as a spice rub or blended into herbal formulas. In West African postpartum practice, the pods are often steeped in hot water or palm wine. Standardized capsule and extract formats are just beginning to enter the supplement market but are not yet widely available.
Grains of Selim have been documented in West African traditional medicine systems for centuries and appear in historical records of the trans-Saharan spice trade. In Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon, the pods are a staple of traditional healers and are widely used in postpartum soups given to new mothers to ease pain, support uterine recovery, and promote warmth. The tree is also used in Yoruba, Akan, and Hausa traditional medicine for respiratory infections, rheumatic pain, and gastrointestinal complaints.
