This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Balloon Flower Root comes from Platycodon grandiflorum, a perennial herb native to East Asia whose roots have been used in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese traditional medicine for millennia. In Korean culture it is called 'doraji' and eaten as a pickled side dish, making it one of the rare medicinal herbs that is also a common food. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is known as Jie Geng and is considered one of the most important herbs for lung and throat health.
The root is rich in saponins — particularly platycodins — which thin and loosen mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up and clear. These saponins also have a direct soothing effect on irritated throat tissue and appear to help calm overactive immune responses that drive inflammation. Additional compounds like inulin act as prebiotics that support gut bacteria and overall immune balance.
Traditional decoction (simmered tea) is the most time-honored form and remains widely used in East Asia. Capsules and standardized extracts offer consistent dosing and are the most practical for everyday use. Powder can be added to warm water or teas. In Korea, the raw or pickled root is eaten as a vegetable, delivering a lower but steady dietary dose of active compounds.
Balloon Flower Root has been a pillar of East Asian medicine for at least 2,000 years, documented in the Shennong Bencao Jing — one of the oldest Chinese herbal texts — as a remedy for lung disorders, sore throat, and pus-forming infections. In Korea it became both medicine and food, embedded in traditional cuisine as doraji banchan. It remains one of the most prescribed herbs in modern Traditional Chinese Medicine formulas for respiratory conditions.
