What is Copper? Copper is a trace mineral essential for human survival. It is found in all body tissues and plays a key role in making red blood cells, maintaining nerve cells, and supporting the immune system. It is also involved in the formation of collagen, a fundamental protein in bones and connective tissue. How does it work for medicinal purposes? Copper works by participating in numerous enzymatic reactions which are vital for the proper functioning of the body. It acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in energy production, iron metabolism, and brain function. It also has antioxidant properties, helping to reduce damage from free radicals. What are the active ingredients that are important for its medicinal properties? The active ingredient in copper, from a medicinal viewpoint, is the copper ion itself (Cu^2+). This ion participates directly in the enzymatic reactions that contribute to its health benefits. What forms does it come in? Copper is available in various forms including supplements (pills, capsules), copper-infused fabrics, and it naturally occurs in various foods. What if I have an imbalance or deficiency? Copper deficiency can lead to several health issues including anemia, bone abnormalities, high cholesterol levels, and neurological problems. Symptoms of deficiency might include fatigue, frequent sickness, weak and brittle bones, problems with memory and learning, and difficulties in walking. When was it first used for medicinal purposes? Copper has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times. Historical records from Egypt show that copper compounds were used to sterilize wounds and drinking water as far back as 2400 B.C.

Helps

Which conditions and symptoms does it help? Anemia: Copper is crucial for the absorption and utilization of iron, and helps reduce symptoms of iron-deficient anemia. Bone health: Copper plays a role in the maintenance of healthy bones by supporting osteoblast function and collagen production. Immune function: Adequate copper levels support the immune system, potentially reducing the severity and duration of colds. Cardiovascular health: Copper helps maintain healthy blood vessels, reduces cholesterol levels, and prevents heart disease. Skin integrity: Copper is involved in the production of collagen and elastin, contributing to skin strength and elasticity. Reduces inflammatory lesions Hair Health : Copper contributes to hair health by supporting keratin formation and hair strength. It is a component of the enzyme lysyl oxidase, which crosslinks collagen and elastin, important for the structure and strength of hair. However, the effects are generally supportive and part of overall nutrition rather than a direct treatment for specific hair problems. Gray Hair : Gray hair primarily results from a decrease in melanin as people age, and while copper is involved in melanin production, there is no conclusive evidence from placebo-controlled, double-blind studies that copper supplementation can affect graying hair.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
