This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Cod liver oil comes from the livers of Atlantic cod and has been used as a food and medicine along the Norwegian coast for at least 300 years. Unlike regular fish oil, it delivers not just omega-3 fatty acids but also pre-formed vitamin D3 and vitamin A in meaningful amounts — making it a nutritionally unique all-in-one supplement. It was one of the first treatments recognized by Western medicine for preventing rickets in children, long before vitamins were even named.
The omega-3 fats EPA and DHA help reduce the body's inflammatory signals, which is why cod liver oil eases joint pain and supports heart and brain health. The vitamin D it contains helps the body absorb calcium, regulate immune cells, and support mood — functions that are often compromised in people who spend little time in sunlight. Vitamin A supports skin health, vision, and immune defense, rounding out the oil's wide-ranging benefits.
Liquid oil is the most potent and cost-effective form and absorbs slightly better with meals. Softgel capsules are more convenient and mask the taste, though you need more capsules to match a spoonful of liquid. Flavored liquids (lemon or mint) are popular for children and taste-sensitive adults. Fermented versions are considered more traditional but are harder to find and more expensive.
Norwegian fishermen were rubbing cod liver oil into aching joints and drinking it to ward off winter illness as far back as the 1700s. By the 1800s, European physicians were prescribing it for rickets, tuberculosis, and rheumatism. The British Navy used it to keep sailors healthy during long voyages. When vitamin D was formally identified in the 1920s, scientists confirmed what coastal communities had already known for generations — this oil was genuinely medicinal.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
