This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Citronella essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and stems of citronella grass — primarily Cymbopogon nardus (Ceylon type) or Cymbopogon winterianus (Java type), with the Java type generally considered more potent. It has a fresh, lemony, slightly floral scent and has been used for centuries across Southeast Asia, India, and South America for pest control, wound care, and mood support. Today it remains one of the most recognized natural insect repellents in the world.
The key active compounds — citronellal, geraniol, and citronellol — work by masking the carbon dioxide and body odor cues that insects use to locate hosts, effectively confusing and deterring mosquitoes and other biting insects. In aromatherapy, inhaled geraniol and citronellal interact with olfactory receptors and may influence the limbic system, the brain's emotional center, contributing to the calming and mood-lifting effects people often report. The oil also has documented antimicrobial and antifungal properties that support its traditional use in minor skin care.
For skin use, citronella oil must always be diluted in a carrier oil (such as coconut, jojoba, or almond oil) to 1–3% concentration before applying to skin. It is widely used in diffusers for aromatherapy and air-freshening, in sprays mixed with water and a dispersant, and in candles and coils for outdoor insect control. Avoid use near eyes, mouth, or on infants under 2 years without practitioner guidance.
Citronella grass has been cultivated and used medicinally in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and China for hundreds of years. It gained global commercial significance in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when essential oil trade expanded from Southeast Asia to Europe and the Americas. The U.S. EPA registered citronella oil as a biopesticide in 1997, recognizing it as generally safe for use as an insect repellent — a relatively rare distinction for a plant-derived oil.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
