Baryta acetica

Evidence grade insufficient: no human trials of this remedy, and homeopathic pills do not beat placebo. Traditional tier T1: a minor but recognised remedy

Home

What is Baryta acetica? Baryta acetica is a homeopathic remedy. It is made from barium acetate, a white salt of the metal barium. Its Latin name is Barii acetas. It is a single drug remedy. That means it comes from one source, not a blend. Homeopaths have used it for old-age complaints, such as weak memory, low energy and swollen glands. The salt is watered down again and again before it is sold. At the usual 30C strength, no barium is left at all. No human trial shows that it works better than a dummy pill (placebo). Long use in a tradition is not proof that a remedy works. Raw barium acetate is a poison, so low-strength forms can be dangerous. How does Baryta acetica work? There is no accepted scientific way for this remedy to work. Makers start with barium acetate. They mix one part with 99 parts of water or alcohol, then shake it hard. They repeat that step over and over. A 30C remedy has been through the step 30 times. After about 12 steps, none of the starting salt is left. Homeopaths say the liquid keeps a "memory" of the salt. Chemistry and physics do not support that idea. In trials, homeopathic pills do not beat dummy pills. What forms does Baryta acetica come in? You will find it as small sugar pills or pellets. You place them under your tongue and let them melt. It also comes as drops in water and alcohol. Common strengths on the label are 6C, 12C, 30C and 200C. Some sellers list low strengths such as 3X, or a mother tincture. These may still hold real barium. Avoid them. Where it comes from: Homeopathy began in Germany in the late 1700s with Samuel Hahnemann. Barium salts were brought into homeopathy in the 1800s. Baryta carbonica is the best known barium remedy. Baryta acetica is a minor one. Old homeopathic books list it for swollen glands, weakness and poor memory in older people. It has never been widely used.

Helps

What does Baryta acetica help with? Swollen glands: Old homeopathy books list this use. No human trial has tested the remedy for swollen glands. Glands that stay swollen for more than two weeks need a doctor. Weak memory in older adults: This is the main use in homeopathy books. There is no trial proof for it. Memory loss has many causes, and some can be treated. See a doctor first. Low energy and weakness in older adults: Homeopaths gave it to frail older people. No study backs this. New weakness can be a sign of a real illness, so get it checked. Large or sore tonsils: Old texts list big, sore tonsils. No trial has tested the remedy for this. A bad sore throat with fever needs a doctor, not a home remedy. Slow growth or late speech in children (old claim only): Old texts mention slow growth and late speech. No trial supports this. Do not give this remedy to children. Take growth worries to a doctor.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
