What is Antimonium arsenicosum? Antimonium arsenicosum is a homeopathic remedy. It is made from antimony arsenate, a mineral that joins two metals. Homeopaths reach for it mainly for long-term chest and breathing complaints. The starting mineral is ground up and mixed with water or alcohol. It is then diluted again and again, with hard shaking at each step. At the common 30C strength, none of the starting material is left in the pellet. Tradition and proof are two different things, and this page reports both. The remedy has a small, steady place in homeopathic books. It has not been shown in trials to work better than a dummy pill (placebo). How does Antimonium arsenicosum work? There is no proven way this remedy could work in the body. At 30C there is nothing of the mineral left to act on you. Homeopaths work from an old idea. They say a substance that causes symptoms in a well person can ease similar symptoms in a sick person. They also say the shaking leaves a trace or pattern in the liquid. That idea has not been shown to hold up in the lab or in good trials. Any relief people feel is best explained by placebo, by time, or by other care they are getting. What forms does Antimonium arsenicosum come in? The usual form is a small sugar pellet or pill. You let it melt under your tongue. Liquid drops in alcohol and water are also sold. So are lactose (milk sugar) tablets. Strengths are written as 6C, 30C, 200C or 6X. A higher number means more dilution steps and less chance of any source material. The 30C strength is the one most shops carry. Where it comes from: The remedy comes from homeopathy, which began in Germany around 1800. Antimony and arsenic salts were both used in medicine long before that. It was written up in homeopathic materia medica (reference books of remedies) in the late 1800s. Writers such as Boericke listed it for hard breathing, wheezing and swelling. It has always been a minor remedy. It is far less used than Arsenicum album or Antimonium tartaricum.

Helps

What does Antimonium arsenicosum help with? Long-term wheezing and breathlessness: This is the classic homeopathic picture for the remedy. Old books describe a person who is worse lying down and worse in damp air. No human trials test the remedy for this. Sudden or severe breathing trouble needs real medical care, not pellets. Emphysema and COPD (a long-term lung disease): Homeopaths have long paired this remedy with long-term lung damage and a hard, tiring cough. There are no published trials in people. COPD care needs inhalers, check-ups and often oxygen, and none of that should be swapped for a remedy. Chesty cough with a lot of phlegm: Books list a loose, rattling cough with thick mucus that is hard to bring up. No trial evidence supports this use. A cough with fever, blood or green phlegm should be checked by a doctor. Swelling of the legs or belly linked to a weak heart: Older texts mention dropsy, an old word for fluid build-up in the body. There is no trial evidence here at all. New or growing swelling can be a sign of heart or kidney trouble and needs a prompt check. Pleurisy (pain and fluid around the lungs): Traditional texts link the remedy to sharp chest pain with fluid around the lung. No human studies exist. This condition needs a doctor, because the cause may be infection or a blood clot. Dry, scaly skin rashes: A dry, itchy eczema-like rash appears in the old remedy picture. No trials have tested it. Standard skin creams and a doctor's advice have far better support.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
