Small cut on toe won't heal
You nicked your toe days or weeks ago. The cut is still open. Or it scabs over, then breaks back open each time you walk.
Feet are slow healers for a few reasons. High blood sugar can slow the repair of skin and tiny blood vessels. Blood flow to the toes is weaker than in the rest of you, and shoes rub the spot all day.
High blood sugar over years can also dull the nerves in the feet. Then you may not feel the sore, or notice how hard you press on it. A small cut that will not close can be an early clue that blood sugar has been high.
When to see someone
Have a doctor check any foot cut that has not closed in two weeks. Go the same day for spreading redness, pus, swelling, a bad smell, or fever. Black or grey skin, red streaks up the foot, new numbness, or pain at rest need urgent care.
Below are remedies that people have long linked with type 2 diabetes. Each one carries a grade for how strong the research behind it is, not a promise of results. Show the list to your doctor, and leave the care of the cut itself in their hands.
