Always thirsty and peeing constantly
You drink a glass of water, and your mouth is dry again in minutes. Then you are back in the bathroom. At night it may wake you two or three times.
These two often go together for a reason. When blood sugar runs high, your kidneys push the extra sugar out in your urine. Water goes with it, so you pee more and then feel thirsty.
High blood sugar is one common reason, but not the only one. Some drugs, such as water pills, make you pee more. Heat, caffeine, and a dry mouth from a stuffy nose can play a part too.
When to see someone
See a doctor if this has gone on for more than a week or two. Go the same day for weight loss you did not plan, blurry vision, or deep tiredness. Get urgent care for vomiting, breath that smells sweet or fruity, fast deep breathing, or confusion.
