One eye red and sore, and light hurts
One eye has turned red. It aches deep inside, not just on the surface. Bright light stings, and the eye may water.
Doctors call this pattern iritis or uveitis. It means the colored ring inside the eye is inflamed. It shows up more often in people with ankylosing spondylitis, a type of spine arthritis.
Usually only one eye is hit at a time. The pupil, the black center, can look small or odd in shape. Your sight may go blurry or foggy too.
When to see someone
Call an eye doctor today, not next week. Go the same day if your sight drops, the ache is deep, or light hurts. New floaters, flashes of light, a pupil that will not change size, or a hard eye also need care now.
Below is a list of remedies people use for ankylosing spondylitis. Each one carries a grade for how strong the evidence is. A grade is not a promise, and none of it stands in for eye care.
