My teeth feel loose and shifting
You press a tooth with your tongue and it moves. Your bite may feel off, like the teeth meet in a new way. Or a gap has opened where there was none before.
Gums and bone hold each tooth in place. Germs build up under the gum line and cause swelling. Over time the gum pulls back and the bone around the root shrinks.
This is the most common reason adult teeth work loose. Grinding your teeth at night can add to the strain. A knock to the mouth, or a tooth pushed by braces, can do it too.
When to see someone
Book a dentist this week, not next month. Red, bleeding, or sore gums, pus, and a bite that feels off all count. Call the same day for a swollen face, a fever, or a tooth you can wiggle with one finger.
Below are remedies people have long used for gum disease. Each one carries a grade for how strong the evidence behind it is. A low grade means the proof is thin, so tell your dentist what you try.
