Joints stiff and sore every morning
You wake up and your joints feel locked. Hands, knees, feet, or the low back can all feel stiff and sore. It may take a while before you move freely again.
Stiffness that hangs on for half an hour or more often points to swelling inside the joint. Psoriatic arthritis is one cause of that kind of morning stiffness. It is tied to psoriasis, a skin problem with red, scaly patches.
Other things can add to the feeling too. A cold room, poor sleep, a hard day of work, and other forms of arthritis all play a part. Doctors often ask how long the stiffness lasts, so make a note of it.
When to see someone
See a doctor if the stiffness lasts over 30 minutes most mornings. Go the same day for a hot, red, swollen joint with fever. Call soon about a new scaly rash, pitted nails, sore red eyes, or back pain that wakes you at night.
Below is a list of remedies people use for psoriatic arthritis. Each one carries a grade for how much research stands behind it, not a promise about you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist first, above all if you take other medicine.
