Hair falling out in the shower
You rinse out the shampoo and strands wrap around your fingers. More hair sits in the drain trap. Your brush fills up faster than it used to, and your ponytail feels thinner.
Some shedding is normal. Most people lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. Washing and combing just loosen the hairs that were ready to let go, so the loss all shows up at once.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is one reason hair can thin. It is a thyroid problem in which your own immune system attacks the gland.
When thyroid hormone runs low, hair may grow more slowly and shed more. Low iron, high stress, a recent illness, childbirth, or a new drug can do the same.
When to see someone
Call a doctor if hair falls out in round bald patches. Get checked for a swollen neck, a lump at the front of it, or a red, scaly, sore scalp.
Also book a visit if you feel worn out, cold, or puffy in the face. Weight gain with no change in how you eat is worth a look too.
Below is a list of remedies that people have long linked to Hashimoto's. Each one carries a grade. The grade tells you how much research stands behind that idea, not what it will do for you.
A low grade means the proof is thin or mostly habit. Show the list to your doctor first, above all if you take thyroid medicine.
