Getting up at night to pee
You get to sleep fine. Then you wake up and need the toilet. Some nights it is once; other nights it is four times.
Doctors call this nocturia, which just means peeing at night. In men past 50, the prostate is a common reason. This gland sits under the bladder and often grows with age.
A bigger prostate can press on the tube that carries urine out. The bladder may not empty all the way, so it fills again fast. Late drinks, alcohol, caffeine, and some blood pressure pills can add to it.
When to see someone
If you cannot pee at all, get care that day. Call your doctor about blood in your urine, burning, fever, or back pain. New thirst, weight loss, or a sudden jump in night trips also need a check.
Below are remedies people use for an enlarged prostate. Each has a grade for how strong the research is. Low grades mean thin evidence, so ask your doctor before trying any of them.
