Feels like my bladder never empties
You finish at the toilet, but it does not feel done. There is a heavy, full weight low in your belly. Ten minutes later you feel the urge again.
In men past 50, the prostate often grows. It wraps around the tube that drains the bladder. When it presses on that tube, some urine can stay behind.
Other causes are possible, like a bladder infection, some drugs, or nerve trouble. A doctor can check what is behind it. A quick scan can show how much urine stays behind.
When to see someone
Get help right away if you cannot pass any urine at all. That is an emergency, so go to urgent care. Also see a doctor soon for blood in your urine, fever with chills, pain low in your back, or burning that lasts more than a day or two.
Below is a list of remedies people have used for an enlarged prostate. Each one carries a grade that shows how much human research stands behind it. A grade is not a promise, so read it first and talk with your doctor before you start.
