Gaining weight around my belly
Your jeans feel tight at the waist. The rest of you may look much the same. Weight that settles in the middle can creep on fast.
Hormones help set where your body stores fat. Stress hormones such as cortisol tend to push fat toward the belly. Shifts in thyroid, estrogen, or insulin can do the same.
Age, poor sleep, and lost muscle play a part too. Some drugs, like steroids, can add weight at the waist. Often more than one cause is at work.
When to see someone
See a doctor if your belly swells fast while your arms and legs stay thin. Get checked for purple stretch marks, a round puffy face, or deep tiredness. Go the same day for belly pain, a swollen hard stomach, or new heavy thirst and peeing.
Below is a list of traditional remedies linked to hormonal balance. Each one has a grade that shows how strong the research behind it is. A grade is not a promise, so talk with your doctor before you try anything.
