Creepy crawly feeling in my legs at night
You get into bed, and your legs start to crawl. It can feel like bugs under the skin, a fizz, or a deep itch you cannot scratch. The urge to move them is hard to fight.
The feeling often fades when you move. Then you lie still, and it creeps back. Doctors call this pattern restless legs syndrome.
Low iron is one common cause. Pregnancy, kidney trouble, and nerve damage from diabetes can play a part too. Some drugs, plus caffeine or alcohol late in the day, can make nights worse.
When to see someone
See a doctor if this keeps you awake most nights. Go sooner if one leg swells, goes numb, or feels weak. Ask for an iron blood test, and say if you are pregnant or take new pills.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies linked to restless legs. Each one has a grade that shows how strong the research is. A grade is not a promise, so talk with your doctor first.
