Bubbly, foamy pee in the toilet
You flush and the bowl fills with white froth. It can look like soap suds sitting on the water. Some days the bubbles pop right away, and some days they hang around.
A fast, strong stream can whip up bubbles in any toilet. So can cleaner left in the bowl. Those bubbles clear in a minute or two.
Foam that keeps coming back can mean protein in your pee. Healthy kidneys keep protein in the blood, and leaky filters let it slip out. High blood sugar and high blood pressure are common reasons filters leak.
When to see someone
See a doctor if the foam keeps coming back for weeks. Book a visit if your feet, hands or face swell, or your pee turns pink, brown or cloudy. Seek care the same day for chest pain, trouble breathing, or passing very little pee.
The list below comes from our kidney health file. Each item has an evidence grade, which shows how much research stands behind it. Go over the list with your doctor before you try anything.
