Bloated and crampy midcycle
About two weeks before your period is due, your belly feels puffy and tight. Your waistband digs in, and a dull, crampy ache sits low down, on one side or across the middle.
Midcycle is when an ovary lets go of an egg. The tiny sac that held the egg can fill with fluid and swell up. That is a cyst, and many shrink on their own within a cycle or two.
Hormones shift at this point in the month, which can slow the gut and hold water. So the bloat may come from your gut, from a cyst, or from both at once. Constipation and gas can pile on top of it.
When to see someone
Get urgent care if sharp belly pain starts fast, or comes with vomiting, fever, or feeling faint. A cyst can twist or burst, and that needs seeing today. Book a doctor's visit if bloating stays most days for three weeks, your belly keeps growing, you fill up fast when eating, or you have pain during sex or new changes in your bleeding.
Below is a list of remedies people have long used for ovarian cysts. The grade on each one tells you how much solid research stands behind it, not what it will do for your body. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before trying any of them, especially if you take other medicine.
