Track Yu Ye Tang with reminders and record whether it helped, in the app.
Yu Ye Tang is a herb mix from Chinese medicine. The English name is Jade Fluid Decoction, which means a tea made by boiling herbs in water. It is handled as a single drug (TCM formula), not as seven loose herbs.
Also known as: Jade Fluid Decoction. It is used for a pattern the old texts call wasting and thirst. That means strong thirst, dry mouth, big hunger, and passing a lot of urine.
Today this picture is often linked with type 2 diabetes (high blood sugar). People also use the tea for dry mouth and tiredness after a long illness.
Here is the short verdict. We could not find clear human trials of this exact tea. Long use in one tradition is not proof that a remedy works, so read the rest with that in mind.
No one has shown how Yu Ye Tang works in the body. The old idea is that it feeds the body's fluids and lifts weak qi (life energy).
In that view, some herbs in the mix cool dryness. Others are said to hold fluid in so less is lost in urine. Ji Nei Jin is said to help the gut break food down.
Lab and animal work hints that astragalus and kudzu may nudge blood sugar down. That work was done in cells and in rodents, not in people.
So the honest answer is that the way it works is a theory, not a proven fact. If your blood sugar changes while you take it, the cause could just as easily be your diet, your weight, or your medicine.
Most people take it as a fresh tea. A practitioner weighs out the raw herbs, and you boil them at home and drink the liquid.
It also comes as granules you stir into hot water, and as ready-made pills or capsules. Granules and pills are easier, but the herb amounts can differ a lot between brands.
Check that the label lists all seven herbs and the amount of each. Herbal products are not checked as closely as medicines, so buy from a seller who tests for heavy metals and added drugs.
The formula comes from China in the early 1900s. The doctor Zhang Xichun wrote it down in his book on joining Chinese and Western medicine.
He built it for wasting and thirst, the old Chinese name for a set of symptoms much like untreated diabetes. He wanted a mix that was moistening but did not weaken digestion.
It is now a standard teaching formula in Chinese medicine schools. That gives it firm standing in one tradition, but it is younger than many classical formulas.
See a doctor soon if your thirst, tiredness or need to pass urine gets worse, or if your home blood sugar readings climb.
Stop the tea and get medical help the same day if you feel shaky, sweaty, confused or faint, which can mean blood sugar has dropped too low. Also stop and call your doctor if your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow, if you get an itchy rash, or if you start bruising or bleeding more easily.
Call emergency services for confusion, fainting, a seizure, or trouble breathing.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
