Trombidium muscae domesticae

Evidence grade insufficient: no human trials support this remedy, and at 30C no mite material remains. Traditional tier T1: a small, recognised remedy

Home

What is Trombidium muscae domesticae? Trombidium muscae domesticae is a single homeopathic remedy. It is made from the red harvest mite, a tiny red bug-like animal related to spiders. Homeopaths have used it mainly for gut upsets with cramps, loose stools and sore piles. The remedy is made by watering the source down again and again. At 30C, the most common strength, no trace of the mite is left. What you take is water, alcohol or a small sugar pill. Human trials do not show that this remedy works better than a dummy pill. Long use inside homeopathy is not proof of effect. These are two separate things, and this page reports both. Use it, if you wish, alongside real care. Never use it in place of care for a gut illness that is getting worse. How does Trombidium muscae domesticae work? There is no known way for this remedy to act on the body. That is the plain answer. Homeopathy rests on two ideas. The first is "like cures like": a thing that causes signs in a well person is said to ease those same signs in a sick one. The second is that more watering down makes a remedy stronger. Neither idea matches what we know about chemistry or the body. By 30C, not one atom of the mite remains in the pill. So any change you notice is most likely a placebo effect (feeling better because you took something), the comfort of a long talk with a homeopath, or the illness simply passing on its own. What forms does Trombidium muscae domesticae come in? You will find it in a few simple forms. Small round pills or tiny sugar granules that melt under the tongue. Liquid drops in water and alcohol. Less often, a mother tincture, which is the first strong liquid before the watering down begins. Common strengths sold are 6C, 30C and 200C. The higher the number, the more times it has been watered down. In all of these, no mite material remains. Where it comes from: The red harvest mite entered homeopathic books in the 1800s. Homeopaths of that time recorded what they believed the mite caused in healthy people, then used it for those same signs in the sick. It appears in classic homeopathic reference books, but only as a small, rarely used remedy. It has no record of use in herbal medicine, Ayurveda, Chinese medicine or any other tradition.

Helps

What does Trombidium muscae domesticae help with? Loose stools with cramping and straining: This is the main use listed in old homeopathic books. Writers described stools that come with hard straining and a burning feeling after. No human trial has tested the remedy for this. Most short bouts of loose stools clear up on their own within a few days, with or without anything taken. Drinking enough fluid matters far more. See a doctor if there is blood, black stools, a high fever, or if it lasts more than two days. Dysentery (gut infection with bloody, painful stools): This is a historical use from the 1800s, written down long before modern testing. Dysentery can be serious. It may need fluids, tests and antibiotics. It is not a problem to treat at home with pills that hold no medicine. There is no trial evidence at all for this remedy in dysentery. If you see blood in the stool, get medical help the same day. Piles (swollen veins around the back passage): Old homeopathic texts list sore, burning piles as a picture that suits this remedy. No human trial supports that. Proven help comes from fibre, fluid, not straining, and creams or other care your doctor or pharmacist can suggest. Bleeding from the back passage always needs a doctor's opinion, even if you think it is only piles. Belly cramps after eating: Homeopaths matched this remedy to cramps that start soon after a meal, with rumbling and an urge to rush to the toilet. This comes from case notes and old symptom lists, not from trials. Ongoing belly cramps can have many causes, some of which need testing. If cramps keep coming back, keep losing you weight, or wake you at night, book a proper check-up.

Where it comes from:

The red harvest mite entered homeopathic books in the 1800s.

Who should avoid Trombidium muscae domesticae?

  • Do not use this instead of urgent care if you have bloody stools, black stools, severe belly pain or a high fever.
  • Do not use it to treat a baby or young child with loose stools on your own — take them to a doctor.
  • Do not use it if you or your child show signs of drying out (dehydration), such as dry mouth, sunken eyes, no tears or very little urine; get medical help instead.
  • Do not use the pills if milk sugar (lactose) upsets your gut or you have been told to avoid it — ask for a liquid form.
  • Do not use the alcohol-based drops if you avoid alcohol, are in recovery from alcohol use, or are giving them to a child.
  • Do not use it if you have ever reacted badly to this remedy or to anything in the pill.
  • Do not use it without asking your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use it on your own if your body fights infection poorly (a weak immune system) and you have ongoing diarrhoea.
  • Do not stop, delay or lower any medicine your doctor gave you in order to take this.

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor the same day if there is blood in the stool, black or tarry stools, bad belly pain, a high fever, or vomiting that will not stop.

Get help urgently for signs of drying out: dry mouth, dizziness when standing, very little urine, or a baby with no wet nappies and no tears.

Book a normal appointment if loose stools last more than two days, if belly cramps keep coming back, if you are losing weight without trying, or if piles bleed or hurt for more than a week.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
