This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) is a large-leafed rhizomatous plant from the ginger family that grows wild and is widely cultivated across Java and other Indonesian islands. It has been a cornerstone of Jamu — Indonesia's 2,500-year-old herbal medicine tradition — where it's used as a daily wellness tonic, liver protector, and digestive remedy. While it shares a family with common turmeric, its star compound is xanthorrhizol, a sesquiterpenoid not found in significant amounts in regular turmeric, giving it a slightly different and complementary set of benefits.
Temulawak works through several overlapping pathways: its curcuminoids reduce inflammatory signaling in the body, while xanthorrhizol has demonstrated liver-protective and antimicrobial effects. The rhizome also stimulates bile production, which is why it's traditionally used to improve fat digestion and appetite — more bile means better breakdown of fats and a natural hunger signal. Together, these compounds help calm gut inflammation, support detox pathways in the liver, and ease the kind of sluggish digestion that leaves you bloated and uncomfortable after meals.
Standardized capsule extracts (often standardized to xanthorrhizol or total curcuminoids) offer the most consistent dosing and are easiest for daily use. Traditional Jamu decoctions brewed from dried rhizome slices are still widely used in Indonesia and are effective, though dosing is less precise. Powdered rhizome can be added to warm drinks. Tinctures are available but less common in Western markets.
Temulawak has been used in Javanese Jamu medicine for at least 600 years, documented in ancient Javanese manuscripts as a treatment for liver complaints, jaundice, and digestive weakness. It remains one of the most commercially important medicinal plants in Indonesia today, and it is officially listed in the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia. Dutch colonial-era physicians also documented its use in the 17th–18th centuries, which led to some of the earliest scientific investigations into its properties.
