Scorpio europaeus

Evidence grade insufficient: no human trials support it, and a 30C dose contains no scorpion. Traditional tier T1: a recognised but minor homeopathic

Home

What is Scorpio europaeus? Scorpio europaeus is a homeopathic remedy made from the European scorpion. It is a single drug, which means it is taken on its own and not in a mix. Homeopaths have given it for nerve pain, sharp stabbing pains, fear and panic. The remedy starts with scorpion material. That material is diluted again and again, with shaking at each step. At 30C, the strength most often sold, no scorpion is left at all. What you take is a sugar pellet, or a drop of water and alcohol. Long use in homeopathy is not proof that a remedy works. These are two separate things, and this page reports both. For this remedy, trials do not show any effect beyond a dummy pill (placebo). How does Scorpio europaeus work? There is no known way for this remedy to act on the body at normal strengths. Homeopathy rests on two ideas. The first is that a substance which causes symptoms in a well person can treat those same symptoms in a sick person. The second is that more diluting makes a remedy act more strongly. Neither idea fits what we know about chemistry or the body. By 30C, the dilution has gone so far that not one molecule of the source is likely to remain. Any change a person notices is best explained by placebo, by time, or by the care and attention of the visit itself. What forms does Scorpio europaeus come in? You will usually find it as small sugar pellets to melt under the tongue. Liquid drops in water and alcohol are also sold. Common strengths are 6C, 30C and 200C. The letter C means each step dilutes the mix one part in a hundred, and 30C means that step was done thirty times. Mother tinctures and very low strengths are sometimes listed in professional catalogues. These may still contain source material and should not be bought or used without a trained practitioner. Where it comes from: This is a minor remedy in homeopathy, not a famous one. It appears in some lists of animal remedies from the 1800s and 1900s. Homeopathy began in Germany in the late 1700s with Samuel Hahnemann. Scorpion remedies were added later by other writers. The written record for Scorpio europaeus is thin. Much of what is repeated about it comes from a few short remedy pictures rather than careful study.

Helps

What does Scorpio europaeus help with? Sharp, shooting nerve pain: Homeopathic texts link this remedy to sudden, stabbing pain that shoots along a nerve. No human trial has tested it for nerve pain. Nerve pain has many causes, and some need a real diagnosis, so see a doctor first. Panic, dread and fear of dying: Some remedy pictures describe great fear, dread and a sense of doom. This comes from remedy lists, not from studies. Panic attacks respond well to proven talking therapy and medicine, so do not delay that care. Restlessness and agitation: Tradition links the remedy to people who cannot keep still and feel wound up. There is no trial evidence for this. Sudden agitation can signal a medical problem, such as low blood sugar or an infection. Twitching and muscle jerks: Because real scorpion venom causes twitching, homeopathic logic offers the remedy for twitching. That is the reasoning, not a finding. New or spreading twitching should be checked by a doctor. Reactions to insect bites and stings: Homeopaths have used it for the after-effects of bites and stings. No study supports this. A real sting with swelling, breathing trouble or a spreading rash is an emergency and needs medical help at once.

Where it comes from:

This is a minor remedy in homeopathy, not a famous one.

Who should avoid Scorpio europaeus?

  • Never use this after a real scorpion sting or any venomous bite. Call emergency services straight away.
  • Do not use this in place of treatment for a serious illness such as heart disease, epilepsy (a seizure disorder), cancer or an infection.
  • Do not use the mother tincture or any strength below 12C on your own, because these may still contain scorpion material.
  • Do not use the liquid drops if you take disulfiram or metronidazole, because the drops contain alcohol.
  • Do not use the liquid drops if you are avoiding alcohol, including in recovery from alcohol problems.
  • Do not give this to a baby or young child instead of taking them to a doctor.
  • Do not use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding without asking your doctor or midwife first.
  • Do not use the pellets if you react badly to lactose (milk sugar) and the label lists it.
  • Do not stop any prescribed medicine to make room for this remedy.

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor, do not wait, if your pain is new, severe or getting worse. Get help the same day for chest pain, a bad headache that comes on fast, weakness on one side, or trouble speaking. Call emergency services for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, a seizure (a fit), or after any sting from a scorpion, snake or spider. Also see a doctor if panic attacks or twitching keep coming back, or if a symptom has not settled after a week.

Evidence grades and traditional-use labels are explained in our methodology. Nothing here is medical advice.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
