This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Poria cocos, known in Chinese medicine as Fu Ling, is a parasitic fungus that grows underground on the roots of pine trees, primarily across East Asia. It produces a dense, coconut-sized sclerotium (a compact fungal mass) that has been harvested and dried as medicine for over two millennia. Unlike flashier mushrooms like reishi or shiitake, Fu Ling is prized for its gentle, grounding quality — it is one of the most commonly used herbs in the entire Chinese pharmacopeia, appearing in hundreds of classical formulas.
Poria's main active compounds are polysaccharides (especially beta-glucans) and triterpenoids. The beta-glucans help train and activate immune cells, particularly natural killer cells and macrophages that form the body's first line of defense. The triterpenoids have calming, anti-inflammatory properties and appear to influence GABA receptors in the brain — the same receptors that anti-anxiety medications target — which helps explain why Fu Ling has been used for centuries to quiet a restless mind and support sleep.
Standardized concentrated extracts (10:1 ratio or higher) are the most practical form for therapeutic use, providing a consistent dose of active compounds without needing large quantities of raw powder. Traditional decoction (boiling the dried sclerotium in water) remains common in East Asian clinical settings. Capsules and tablets with verified polysaccharide content are convenient and well-researched for immune applications.
Fu Ling has appeared in Chinese medical texts since at least the Han dynasty (around 200 BCE), described in the Shennong Bencao Jing — the foundational Chinese herbal classic — as a superior herb that calms the heart, strengthens the stomach, and nourishes vital essence without toxicity. It is one of the few classical herbs whose reputation has held up robustly under modern pharmacological investigation, with its immune-modulating polysaccharides now among the better-characterized compounds in fungal medicine research.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
