What is it? Magnesium L-Threonate is a unique form of magnesium that is designed to improve cognitive function by enhancing magnesium levels in the brain. It is a compound formed by combining magnesium with L-threonic acid, a metabolite of vitamin C. This form of magnesium is specifically noted for its high bioavailability and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. How does it work for medicinal purposes? Magnesium L-Threonate works by increasing magnesium levels in the brain, which is crucial for various brain functions including memory, learning, and cognitive processing. Magnesium is a vital mineral involved in neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity, and neuroprotection. By enhancing brain magnesium levels, Magnesium L-Threonate helps support cognitive function and may protect against age-related cognitive decline. What are the active ingredients that are important for its medicinal properties? The primary active ingredients in Magnesium L-Threonate include: Magnesium : Essential for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including nerve function, muscle contraction, and bone health. L-Threonic Acid : A metabolite of vitamin C that enhances the absorption of magnesium and facilitates its entry into the brain. What forms does it come in? Capsules Tablets Powder What if I have an imbalance or deficiency? Magnesium L-Threonate can help address magnesium deficiency, particularly in the brain. Magnesium deficiency can lead to various health issues including muscle cramps, fatigue, and cognitive impairment. Supplementing with Magnesium L-Threonate can support overall brain health and improve cognitive function. When was it first used for medicinal purposes? Magnesium L-Threonate is a relatively recent development in nutritional supplements, gaining popularity in the past decade due to its unique ability to enhance brain magnesium levels and cognitive function.

Helps

What does Magnesium L-Threonate help with? Magnesium L-Threonate is a lab-made form of magnesium, often sold as MgT. It is marketed for the brain. Animal work shows that it raises magnesium levels inside the brain. Memory slips and an aging brain Early evidence — small human studies in older adults; sizes, doses and journals not listed in the file. Studies in older adults found better short-term memory and working memory after several weeks of use. Overall thinking scores also went up. The file on hand does not list the trial sizes, doses or journals, so treat this as early work. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Thinking that slows down with age Early evidence — animal models plus early human studies; no sizes or doses on file. Brain magnesium drops as people age, and that drop is linked to memory trouble and slower thinking. Animal studies and early human studies found slowing in some markers of brain aging. No trial size, dose or journal is on file. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Feeling anxious or wound up by stress Early evidence — some clinical evidence, used as part of a wider plan; no trial size on file. Some clinical evidence supports MgT as one part of a broader plan for mild to moderate anxiety. Low brain magnesium has been linked to stronger stress reactions. The file lists no trial size, dose or journal. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Low mood Evidence doesn't support this — preliminary evidence only, mostly in people low in magnesium. Early evidence hints at steadier mood, mainly in people who are short on magnesium. Magnesium's role in making serotonin is general nutrition science, not a trial of MgT. MgT is not a stand-in for depression care. Evidence grade D · Traditional tier T0 PTSD and trauma symptoms Evidence doesn't support this — early clinical research, described in the file as promising but limited. Early clinical research points to less fear response, less anxiety and less of that always-on-guard feeling. Researchers think MgT acts on stress circuits in the brain. The evidence is limited, and no trial size or dose is on file. Evidence grade D · Traditional tier T0 Poor focus and brain fog Not yet tested in people — user reports and lab work on NMDA receptors; no human trial on file. People often report feeling more present and less foggy after a few weeks. Those are user reports, not trial results. The idea that MgT steadies NMDA receptor activity comes from lab work, not from people. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Trouble falling or staying asleep Not yet tested in people — no human sleep trial of this form on file; mechanism work only. Magnesium is well known to help calm the nervous system, but that is general science, not a trial of MgT. In lab work, magnesium supports GABA, the brain's main brake pedal. No human sleep trial of MgT is on file, so sleep effects stay untested here. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Nerve pain that will not let up Not yet tested in people — early-stage research and single reports; more human trials still needed. In lab work, magnesium blocks receptors that turn up pain signals. Early-stage research and single reports hint at less nerve pain with MgT. No human trial of MgT for nerve pain is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 What Magnesium L-Threonate has not been shown to do No study on file shows that MgT prevents dementia or Alzheimer's disease. MgT has not been shown to replace care or medicine for depression. No human sleep trial on file backs MgT as a sleep aid on its own. No human trial on file shows that MgT eases chronic nerve pain. Sharper focus rests on user reports, not on any trial on file. How to read this: Each use gets its own grade. A means several good human trials agree. B means one good human trial. C means small, mixed or early human work. D means the human evidence is weak or conflicting. Insufficient means no human study on file, just lab work, animal work or reports

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
