This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Jawarish Kamuni is a classical Unani compound formulation that has been prepared and prescribed across the Persian, Arab, and South Asian medical traditions for well over a thousand years. The word 'jawarish' (also spelled jawaarish) refers to a category of electuary — a medicated paste or confection — and 'kamuni' points to its lead ingredient, cumin (kammun in Arabic). It typically combines cumin with warming digestive spices like ginger, black pepper, long pepper, and caraway in a sweetened base such as honey or sugar syrup.
The formula works by stimulating digestive enzyme activity, promoting the release of gastric juices, and relaxing intestinal smooth muscle to relieve gas and cramping. Cumin specifically has been shown to increase the activity of enzymes like amylase, protease, and lipase, while ginger and the pepper compounds speed gastric emptying and reduce nausea. Together, these spices create a carminative and stomachic effect — meaning they help the gut move food along more efficiently and expel trapped gas.
The classic preparation is an electuary — a thick, spiced paste taken by the teaspoon. Modern Unani pharmacies across India, Pakistan, and the Middle East also produce it as tablets or powders. A few supplement companies have encapsulated standardized versions. The traditional paste form is considered most authentic because the honey base may contribute to the formula's overall digestive and soothing effects.
Jawarish Kamuni appears in foundational Unani texts including those influenced by Ibn Sina's Canon of Medicine (11th century CE) and Al-Biruni's pharmacopeial writings. It belongs to a broader class of Unani digestive electuaries that were central to the treatment of what classical Unani physicians called 'sue-e-hazm' (poor digestion) and 'nafhkh' (flatulence/bloating). The formulation has been continuously prepared in South Asia for centuries and remains an official preparation in the Unani pharmacopoeia of India.
