What is IV Vitamin C Therapy? IV Vitamin C delivers ascorbic acid directly into the vein at doses far higher than any oral supplement can achieve — typically 10 to 100 grams per session compared to the few grams your gut can absorb before causing digestive upset. At these elevated blood concentrations, vitamin C behaves differently than it does at dietary levels, acting as a pro-oxidant in certain environments and a powerful antioxidant in others. It has been used in integrative and functional medicine clinics for decades, and interest in its therapeutic potential has grown significantly through cancer research and post-illness recovery protocols. How does IV Vitamin C Therapy work? When vitamin C reaches very high concentrations in the blood — only possible via IV — it can generate hydrogen peroxide in tissues, which may selectively stress cancer cells while leaving healthy cells largely unaffected. At the same time, it supports collagen production, helps neutralize inflammatory free radicals, and powers key immune cells like neutrophils and natural killer cells. It also plays a direct role in making carnitine, the molecule your cells use to convert fat into energy, which may explain the energy boost many people report after infusions. What forms does IV Vitamin C Therapy come in? Delivered exclusively as an IV drip in a clinical setting. Sessions typically last 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the dose. Some integrative clinics also offer lower-dose 'Myers Cocktail' infusions that include vitamin C alongside magnesium and B vitamins. This is a medical procedure and cannot be self-administered. Where it comes from: High-dose vitamin C as a therapeutic tool was pioneered in the 1970s by Nobel laureate Linus Pauling and Scottish physician Ewan Cameron, who published early work suggesting it could extend survival in cancer patients. Though their initial findings were controversial and disputed by the Mayo Clinic's oral-dose trials, later research by the NIH clarified that IV delivery — not oral — is what achieves the therapeutic blood levels Pauling had theorized. Research through the 2000s and 2010s, particularly from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Kansas, has renewed serious scientific interest in its role in cancer support and critical illness.

Helps

What does IV Vitamin C Therapy help with? Cancer care support (adjunct): High-dose IV vitamin C is one of the most studied natural adjuncts in oncology. At the blood concentrations only IV can achieve, it appears to selectively stress cancer cells through a hydrogen peroxide mechanism while supporting the body's own immune surveillance. Clinical trials have explored its potential to improve quality of life, reduce tumor markers, and ease chemotherapy side effects — it is not a standalone cancer cure but is increasingly integrated into supportive oncology protocols. Immune support and frequent illness: Vitamin C is essential for the function of key immune cells — neutrophils, lymphocytes, and natural killer cells all depend on it to do their jobs. IV dosing rapidly saturates immune cells and may shorten the duration and severity of infections more effectively than oral supplementation, particularly in people who are under chronic stress or nutritionally depleted. Sepsis and critical illness support: People in the ICU with sepsis are often severely depleted of vitamin C due to massive oxidative stress. IV vitamin C has been studied — sometimes alongside thiamine and hydrocortisone — for its potential to reduce organ damage and improve outcomes in critically ill patients. Results have been mixed but the rationale is strong, and research is ongoing. Chronic fatigue and low energy: Vitamin C is a required cofactor for making carnitine, the molecule that helps shuttle fat into cells to be burned for energy. People with chronic fatigue or adrenal burnout are often low in vitamin C, and IV infusions can quickly restore levels that oral supplements may not reach, with many patients reporting noticeable energy improvements within hours. Post-viral recovery (including long COVID): Viral infections can cause a lasting drop in antioxidant defenses and persistent inflammation. IV vitamin C has been explored as a recovery tool for post-COVID fatigue and immune dysregulation, with some clinical protocols underway. It helps replenish depleted antioxidant reserves and supports the vascular and immune repair processes needed after significant illness. Chemotherapy side effect relief: Several clinical studies have found that patients receiving high-dose IV vitamin C alongside chemotherapy reported less fatigue, nausea, and pain compared to those receiving chemotherapy alone. It may also help protect healthy cells from oxidative damage during treatment, though it should always be coordinated with the oncology team. Wound healing and surgery recovery: Collagen — the structural protein your body needs to close wounds and repair tissue — cannot be made without vitamin C. IV dosing before or after surgery helps ensure optimal vitamin C status at exactly the time the body needs it most, potentially speeding recovery and reducing complications. Inflammation and oxidative stress: Chronic low-grade inflammation drives many modern health problems. At IV doses, vitamin C acts as a potent antioxidant that can quench free radicals and reduce inflammatory markers. This is why it is used in a wide range of conditions where oxidative stress plays a central role. Adrenal fatigue and burnout: The adrenal glands have one of the highest concentrations of vitamin C in the entire body — they use it to produce stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Chronic stress depletes adrenal vitamin C rapidly, and IV therapy is a direct way to replenish those stores and support the stress response system. Skin health and collagen production: Vitamin C is the primary driver of collagen synthesis in skin. IV delivery ensures the skin receives optimal levels regardless of gut absorption limitations, making it popular in aesthetic medicine for improving skin brightness, texture, and firmness — particularly when combined with other skin-supportive nutrients.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
