This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Guggul is the gum resin harvested from the Commiphora mukul tree, a small thorny shrub native to the arid regions of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for more than 2,500 years, appearing in ancient texts like the Sushruta Samhita as a treatment for obesity, arthritis, and metabolic disorders. Modern research has focused on isolating its active compounds — particularly guggulsterols — to understand how it influences cholesterol, inflammation, and thyroid function.
Guggul's primary active compounds, guggulsterone E and Z, appear to work by influencing bile acid receptors in the liver, which helps the body clear LDL cholesterol more efficiently. These compounds also dial down inflammatory signaling, which explains their traditional use for swollen and painful joints. Guggul also appears to stimulate thyroid hormone production, which may help support metabolism.
Standardized guggulipid capsules or tablets (2.5–5% guggulsterols) are the most studied and reliable form for clinical use. Raw or crude guggul resin is still used in traditional Ayurvedic preparations, often combined with other herbs. Purified guggul powder is also available and sometimes preferred in traditional formulas.
Guggul is one of the oldest documented medicinal resins in human history, referenced in the Atharva Veda and later detailed in the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita — foundational Ayurvedic medical texts dating back over 2,000 years. It was prescribed for conditions broadly described as medoroga (fat disorders) and amavata (arthritis), which map closely to how it is used clinically today. Indian pharmaceutical interest surged in the 1960s when researchers began investigating its cholesterol-lowering potential, eventually leading to guggulipid being approved in India as a lipid-lowering drug in 1986.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
