Cuprum arsenicosum

Recognised in homeopathic writing since the 1800s (T1), but no trial separates it from placebo, so the evidence grade is insufficient.

What is Cuprum arsenicosum? Cuprum arsenicosum is a single homeopathic remedy. Its Latin name is Cupri arsenis. It is also known as copper arsenite, or Scheele's green, an old green paint colour. Homeopaths give it for cramping belly pain, watery stools with cramps, sick feelings, and muscle cramps. It is a minor remedy, not a first-choice one. The raw salt is a poison. It holds copper and arsenic. The remedy is watered down again and again, so a 30C pill holds none of the start material. Traditional use is not proof that a thing works. Trials do not show homeopathic pills doing better than dummy pills. This page reports both axes side by side. How does Cuprum arsenicosum work? Homeopathy rests on two ideas. The first is "like cures like": a thing that causes a symptom is said to treat it. The second is that shaking each step of the dilution leaves a trace of the first substance behind. There is no known way for that to happen. Water does not keep a record of what was once in it. When homeopathic pills are tested against dummy pills, they do not do better. So any change you feel is best put down to placebo (a dummy-pill effect), time, and rest. What forms does Cuprum arsenicosum come in? You will find it as small sugar pills, tiny round granules, or liquid drops in alcohol. Some brands sell a soft tablet that melts on the tongue. Common strengths are 6C, 30C, and 200C. The 30C is the one most shops stock. Low strengths such as 3X and 6X are sold too. These may still hold real arsenic, so leave them alone. Where it comes from: Copper arsenite was made in 1775 by a Swedish chemist, Carl Scheele. It was sold as a bright green paint called Scheele's green. It also made people ill in rooms where that paint was used. Homeopaths wrote it into their books in the 1800s. They used it for cholera-like watery stools with hard cramps. It has stayed a small, less-used remedy within one tradition. That is why its traditional tier is T1.

Helps

What does Cuprum arsenicosum help with? Cramping watery diarrhoea: This is the main picture in homeopathic books: sudden watery stools with strong belly cramps. No human trial has tested this remedy for it. Watery stools that keep going need fluids and a doctor, not a sugar pill. Nausea and vomiting with belly cramps: Homeopaths list burning pain in the stomach with a sick feeling. Again, this comes from old case notes, not from trials. If you cannot keep fluids down, see a doctor. Muscle cramps in the legs and feet: Copper remedies are linked in homeopathy to cramp and twitching. No trial has tested Cuprum arsenicosum for cramp. Cramps that keep coming back may point to low salts in the blood or a drug side effect, so get them checked. Tight, wheezy breathing at night: Some old texts mention spasm in the chest and hard breathing. There is no trial evidence for this use. Breathing trouble is not something to treat at home; use your inhaler and call for help. Weakness after a stomach bug: Homeopaths describe deep tiredness with cold sweat after watery stools. This rests on tradition only. Most people get better with fluids, food, and rest.

If this is an emergency

Some reactions to Cuprum arsenicosum need urgent care. Call your local emergency number or go to an emergency department straight away — do not wait to see whether it passes.

Who should avoid Cuprum arsenicosum?

  • Do not use if you cannot see a potency of 12C or higher printed on the pack, because lower strengths may hold real arsenic
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor has said it is fine
  • Do not use if you want to give it to a baby or a child under 12 without a doctor's advice
  • Do not use if you have signs of losing too much body water, such as dizziness, a dry mouth, sunken eyes, or very little urine
  • Do not use if you have blood in your stools, black stools, or a high fever
  • Do not use if you have chest pain or trouble breathing: call emergency services instead
  • Do not use if you have kidney disease, since arsenic in low potencies leaves the body through the kidneys
  • Do not use if you take a drug that changes your heart rhythm, unless the pack says 12C or higher
  • Do not use if you already take another product that holds arsenic, such as some traditional Asian remedies
  • Do not use if you are thinking of stopping or delaying a medicine your doctor gave you

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor the same day if watery stools last more than two days, or if you cannot keep fluids down. Go sooner for a baby, an older person, or anyone with a long-term illness.

Get urgent help for blood in the stool, black stools, a stiff or very painful belly, a high fever, or signs of losing too much body water.

Call emergency services for chest pain, trouble breathing, fits, or a fast or odd heartbeat. If you or a child swallowed a low-potency product and feel a burning throat, vomiting, or cramps, call a poison centre right away.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
