This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Castor oil packs are a traditional hydrotherapy-adjacent remedy made by saturating a piece of wool flannel or cotton cloth in cold-pressed castor oil and applying it directly to the skin — most commonly the abdomen, liver area, or pelvis. The pack is often covered with plastic wrap and a heating pad to encourage deeper absorption and tissue penetration. The practice spans thousands of years and has been widely adopted in naturopathic, Ayurvedic, and Western integrative medicine.
The primary active compound, ricinoleic acid, is a rare hydroxylated fatty acid that binds to prostaglandin E3 receptors in the skin and underlying tissues, helping to calm inflammation and encourage smooth muscle relaxation. Applied over the abdomen, castor oil packs appear to stimulate the vagus nerve and improve local blood and lymphatic circulation, which supports digestive motility and helps the body clear metabolic waste. The warmth from a heating pad adds a layer of benefit by dilating blood vessels and relaxing fascia in the treatment area.
Traditional wool flannel is preferred in naturopathic protocols for its absorbency and heat retention, though cotton flannel works well. Modern pre-made castor oil pack wraps are available with elastic bands that allow hands-free use. Quality of the oil matters — look for cold-pressed, hexane-free, ideally organic castor oil in dark glass bottles. Heat application (via a hot water bottle or heating pad set to low) is considered standard in most clinical protocols.
Castor oil packs appear in Ancient Egyptian medical texts as early as 1550 BCE (Ebers Papyrus). Ayurvedic practitioners used castor (eranda) externally and internally for centuries. The packs were popularized in 20th-century Western naturopathy largely through the work of Edgar Cayce, who recommended them extensively for liver and digestive complaints. They have since become a foundational tool in functional and integrative medicine protocols.
