Sudden urge, can't reach the toilet in time
The need to go hits you fast. You have seconds, not minutes. Sometimes the leak starts before you reach the toilet.
This is often called urge incontinence, meaning the urge comes on hard and sudden. The bladder muscle squeezes when the bladder is not even full. So you get a loud signal with almost no warning.
Many things can set it off. Running water, cold air, or your key in the front door. Caffeine, fizzy drinks, hard stools, and some medicines can play a part too.
When to see someone
Book a doctor visit if you see blood in your urine, or have a fever or burning when you pee. Get help fast if you cannot pass urine at all, or your legs feel weak or numb. Also go if this is new, getting worse, or keeping you close to home.
Below is a list of folk and traditional remedies linked to this kind of bladder urge. Each one carries a grade that shows how strong the evidence is. A grade is not a promise, so read it first and talk with your doctor.
