Puffy swollen eyelids every morning
You wake up and your eyelids feel thick and tight. The skin looks smooth and stretched, and your eyes seem smaller. By mid-morning it often settles a bit on its own.
Fluid pools in the thin eyelid skin while you lie flat all night. Salt in last night's meal can hold more of that fluid. Crying, a late drink, or short sleep can add to it.
Rubbing, dust, pet hair, or pollen can make lids swell too. So can a new soap, cream, or eye makeup. As you age, the skin thins and small fat pads push forward.
When to see someone
Get help the same day if one eyelid is red, hot, and sore. Call urgent care for blurred vision, fever, a lid you cannot open, or trouble breathing. See your doctor if puffiness lasts all day, a lump forms on the lid, or your legs swell.
Below you will find remedies from our reviewed file on under-eye bags. Each one carries a grade that shows how much research stands behind it, not a promise for you. Talk with your doctor before you try something new.
