Dark shadows under my eyes
You look in the mirror and see dark half-moons under your eyes. The skin there may look blue, purple, brown or grey. People ask if you are tired, even on days you feel fine.
The skin under your eyes is very thin. Blood vessels sit just below it, so they show through. Shadows also come from the shape of your face, where a small hollow or a puffy bag catches the light.
Common reasons include short sleep, salty food, crying, rubbing, and hay fever. Age thins this skin even more. Dark circles often run in families, and some skin tones hold more pigment here.
When to see someone
See a doctor if only one eye turns dark, swells, or hurts. Get care right away for a lump, a rash, a drooping lid, or any change in your vision. Book a visit too if you also feel worn out, short of breath, or you bruise easily.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies that people use for dark circles and under-eye bags. Each one has a grade that shows how much research has looked at it. A high grade means more study, not a promise, and a low grade means little is known.
