Night sweats waking me up
You drop off to sleep fine. Then you wake up hot and damp, with your top stuck to you and the sheets gone cold. Once the heat passes, you are left shivering and wide awake.
Around menopause, this is often the same hot flush that hits in the day. Shifting hormone levels seem to change the way your body reads its own heat. A warm room, a thick quilt, a glass of wine, or a spicy meal late on can all add to it.
Sweats at night have other causes too. An infection, some medicines, a thyroid problem, or a very worried mind can each bring them on.
When to see someone
See a doctor if you also lose weight without trying, run a fever, or have a cough that hangs on. Get checked for swollen glands, new lumps, or soaking sweats most nights for weeks. Any bleeding after your periods have stopped needs a doctor this week.
Below is a list of traditional remedies linked to menopause. Each one carries a grade. The grade shows how much research exists, not how well it will work for you.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you try anything new.
