Legs feel weak on stairs
You start up a flight of stairs and your legs feel weak. The thighs may feel heavy, like they are full of sand. By the third or fourth step, you reach for the rail.
Spinal stenosis is one common reason for this. The canal in your low back gets narrow, and nerves get pressed. Those nerves carry the signal that lifts each foot and knee.
Weak legs can come from other things too. Hip or knee wear, low thyroid, or some drugs can play a part. Age and less walking also make leg muscles smaller.
When to see someone
Get help today if you lose bladder or bowel control, or go numb between your legs. Go in fast if a foot drags, or if the weakness grows quickly. Also see a doctor for fever, night pain, or weight loss you cannot explain.
Below are remedies people use for spinal stenosis, each with an evidence grade. The grade rates the strength of the research, not what will happen for you. Low grades mean thin or mixed proof, so talk with your doctor first.
