Leg still sore days after a cramp
The cramp itself is long gone. But your calf or thigh still aches two or three days later. It can feel bruised, tight, or tender when you walk or press on it.
A night cramp is a hard, sudden squeeze of the muscle. The muscle fibres get pulled while you lie still. Soreness after that is common, much like the ache after a hard workout.
Some cramps leave more of a mark than others. A very strong cramp, older legs, long hours on your feet, or a day with little fluid can all play a part. In most cases the ache fades a bit each day.
When to see someone
See a doctor if the sore leg swells, turns red, or feels warm to the touch. Those can be signs of a clot. Call the same day if the pain gets worse, you cannot put weight on the leg, or your urine turns dark brown.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies linked to night leg cramps. Each one carries a grade for how much evidence stands behind it. A grade is not a promise that the remedy will help you.
