Itchy red lines on my belly
You see red or pink streaks running across your belly. They may itch, sting, or feel a little raised. The skin around them can feel tight and dry.
These lines are stretch marks. They form when skin is pulled fast, faster than it can adjust. Pregnancy, weight gain, and growth spurts are the usual reasons.
The itch is most common while the marks are new and red. Over months, most fade to a pale silver line. Steroid creams and some hormone shifts can also make skin thin and mark more easily.
When to see someone
See a doctor if the itch is fierce, spreads, or comes with hives in late pregnancy. Go too if the skin turns hot, weepy, or crusty, or you run a fever. Wide purple marks with easy bruising and thin skin also need a check.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies used for stretch marks. Each has a grade for how strong the proof is. A low grade means the studies are thin or missing.
