Heart races when I stand up
You get up from a chair or out of bed, and your heart takes off. It may pound, thump or flutter for a minute or two. Your head may swim, your legs may go weak, and your sight may dim at the edges.
When you stand, blood pools in your legs. Your body should squeeze those blood vessels and lift your heart rate a little. After Covid, that quick reflex can run late or run too hard, so your heart beats fast to make up for it.
Heat, a hot shower, a big meal, or too little salt and water can all feed into it. Long days and poor sleep can too. This is a real and common part of Long Covid, and it is worth tracking.
When to see someone
See a doctor if you faint, or come close to fainting, when you stand. Get help right away for chest pain, pain that spreads to your arm or jaw, or a heart that races hard while you sit still. Book a check too if you are short of breath at rest, if this is new or getting worse, or if it started after a new drug.
Below is a list of remedies that people use for Long Covid, each with an evidence grade. The grade shows how much solid research sits behind it, not what it will do for you. Talk with your doctor before you try any of them, above all if you take heart or blood pressure drugs.
